So I’m involved in a local photography group called Get Focused. We meet monthly, and it has been such a blessing to me these last seven years. It affords me the opportunity to go out and shoot, to shoot places I wouldn’t feel safe going alone, and to shoot with like-minded people. The camaraderie amongst the group is invaluable to me.
Three years ago we met at sunset and shot cityscapes of New Orleans from across the river. I was really pleased with the shots I got and had a great time.
This is the shot I captured in Oct. 2016.
Fast forward a couple of years. Lonnie — my friend and organizer of the group — decided our next outing would be sunset on the other side of the river. When we arrived, the cloud cover was too heavy to really see the sun. As we were taking in our surroundings, deciding what we could shoot instead, we could see the bridge right there. We discussed it and decided to just drive over and see what we could see.
I was so excited when we climbed the levee and could see the city from under the bridge. We then set up and started shooting. Fired off my first shot and…money shot!
The shot captured in Jan 2020.
I could have packed up right then and left and would have been happy.
But I altered my composition a couple of times and got a few other keepers.
I really like how both bridges are visible here.
As we were heading back to the car, the bridge was so lit up and pretty, my friend and I decided to set back up and grab a couple more photos. I knew I’d hate myself if I didn’t stop and do this.
I just loved the light on the bridge and the reflection on the water.
I got one other shot of the city. I think I prefer this one to the one I got in 2016. I think it’s the colors in addition to the reflections in the water that I like.

Man, I had such a great time! I was so pumped when I was finished editing these photos. Rarely do I feel like any of my images belong on the wall, but these I want to have printed.
